PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
